Keller - Wilmer "Pat"

Source: Crawfordsville Journal Review 13 Jan 1958 p. 1

Wilmer P. (Pat) Keller, 37, Crawford Hotel, a printer at R.R. Donnelley and Sons Co., was killed, apparently instantly, about 8:15 pm Sunday when his car left Ind. 32 and overturned in a field three miles east of U.S. 41, southwest of Hillsboro. State police said the accident, in which only Keller's car, a 1955 Pontiac sedan, was involved, occurred as he was driving west at what they believed to have been a fairly high rate of speed and either applied his brakes or the brakes locked. The car left the highway, broke off a light pole, struck a corner fence post and rolled four or five times, according to police, landing upside down in a field. The crash happened on a straight stretch of road. The body was so pinned in the wreckage that a wrecker had to be used to free it. Death was attributed to multiple injuries, including a crush fracture of the skull. The body was taken to the Crumley Funeral Home at Hillsboro, then to the Fishero and Fishero Funeral Home at Veedersburg. Investigating officers said there were no direct witnesses to the accident, although the crash was heard by residents of the neighborhood. At the hotel here where Keller stayed it was reported that he had just returned Sunday morning from a weekend in Ohio. Survivors include three children, Patty, 14, Beverly, 11, and Connie, 10, and the foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arista Keller of Veedersburg. Trooper I. D. Finch and Cpl. Edgar Likens of the state police investigated the accident along with Sheriff George Keller, Deputy Sheriff George Curea and Coroner Charles Fishero of Fountain County.
