Keeney - James Madison

One of the Oldest Printers in the State and at One Time Resided Here Rockville, July 8 - Madison Keeney, 84 years old, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Parke county, died about 11 o'clock Friday morning, after a lingering illness. He was born in Somerset, Kentucky, and his parents emigrated to Indiana when he was a boy. He entered a printing office in Crawfordsville when young, and in 1860 came to Rockville and took charge of the Rockville Republican, which he edited and published for about thirty years. Politically, he was a Republican. He was county clerk for four years. During the civil war he was second lieutenant of Company C, Seventy-eighth regiment, Indiana volunteers. He is survived by a widow and two sons, Parke Keeney of Chicago, and Dr. Madison Keeney, of Pueblo, Colorado. Mr. Keeney was a member of the I.O.O.F. order, Methodist Episcopal church, and of the Grand Army of the Republic. Burial will take place in the Rockville cemetery. Mr. Keeney was well known in this county, being the brother of Jere Keeney Sr. who was for years editor of the Star of this city. He was also an uncle of James McCoy and R.T. B. Hamilton.
