DR. D. P. KEENE was born in Riding, Pa., August 17, 1819. His father, J. J. Keene was born in England; his mother was from Glasgow, Scotland. The doctor was married in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Catherine Quaintance, who died in this city seventeen years ago. He emigrated to this state in 1852 and located in Americus, Tippecanoe County, a small town eleven miles east of Lafayette on the old Wabash & Erie Canal, at that time a great grain and trading point. But when the L. E. & W. R. R. was built he moved over on this line and built the first home in the new town which was named Transitville. He practiced medicine from 1850 up to the time of his death. He went to the war from that County, helped a raise a company in the 40th regiment and was appointed surgeon of the regiment; served two years, rheumatism preventing him from serving longer. After the war he removed to Attica, Ind., to educate his two children, both of whom are living. The son, A. B. Keene, lives in Wapella, Ill., the daughter, Mrs Nellie Knight, in Los Angeles, Calif. Dr. Keene has been living in Marion for eleven years and was buried here last Sunday. Those attending were: J. J. Keene, J. M. Keene, G. K. Keene, Mrs. Toby Webb, Mrs. Ella Scrany of Lafayette, Mr. And Mrs. Star of Marion, E. Quiantance of Kokomo, A. B. Keene of Wapella Ill., and Mrs. Emma Keene, the widow.

Dr. D. P. Keene died this morning at 10 o'clock at his home on south Adams Street. He had been ill for many months and his death was caused by a complication of diseases. He had practiced in Marion for about nine years and during that time had gained a wide and favorable reputation. He was eighty-three years and eleven months old at the time of his death and his widow, Mrs. Emma Keene, two brothers, two sisters, a son and daughter survive him. The funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. E. L. Frazier Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the late residence. The remains will be taken to Crawfordsville, Ind., Sunday morning for burial.
