Keeling - Squire

Source: Hillsboro Times April 1946

Squire R. Keeling, 72, a life resident of this vicinity was found dead at his home Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. His niece, Mrs. Harry Hicks, went to his home to investigate when he failed to make an appearance at her house as he had been accustomed.  Finding the door locked she summoned neighbors who gained entrance and found him on the floor in his bed room.  Evidently he had died during the night of a heart attack. Born March 1, 1874, he was the son of Cass and Sarah Ellis Keeling.  He was never married. Surviving relatives include two sisters, Mrs. Belle Quiggle and Mrs. Rinda Fletcher, both of Crawfordsville.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Fishero Funeral Home, with Rev. JC Shrigley in charge.  Burial in the Lutheran Cemetery at Wallace.

Squire R. Keeling son of Christopher C. and Sarah A. Ellis Keeling was born March 1, 1872 and departed this life at the age of 74 years 1 month 20 days.  While he was still a small boy the family moved from Montgomery County to Veedersburg.  In 1902 his parents died and much of the time since Mr. Keeling has lived alone.  He worked as a day laborer and was the sixth child of a family of 8 children to answer the call out of time into eternity.  He never united with any church but was a strong believer in the Christian faith.  Besides the two sisters, Mrs. Bell Quiggle and Mrs. Rinda Fletcher, both of Crawfordsville, Ind there are relatives to mourn the loss of a dear uncle and brother.  (poem)
