Mr. Forrest Frederick ¬Kay died at 10:20 am Friday, Dec. 23 in Lakeview Memorial Hospital, Danville, Ill., where he had been taken an hour earlier after suffering a heart attack. He was born Sept. 30, 1906 at Paris Crossing, Ind., the son of Frederick and Cecile Wilson Kay. He was married Aug. 29, 1934 to Geneva Smith, who survives. Mr. Kay was a graduate of Richland Township High School at Newtown and attended business college at Ft. Wayne. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Upsilon national fraternity. He was a member of the Covington Methodist Church, Richland Lodge 205, F. & A. M., Crawfordsville Chapter and Council, Wallace Low 12 Club, Covington Lions Club of which he was a past president, Danville Lodge 332, B.P.O.E. Sycamore Order 106, Sword of Bunker Hill of Covington, and the Indiana Volunteer Firemen’s Association. He had lived in Covington for 30 years and had served as Fountain County Treasurer for five years and for the past six years was clerk of the Fountain Circuit Court. He was a leader in community affairs and was the founder of wrestling matches in Covington which enabled the Lions Club to purchase the football scoreboard. He was always willing and anxious to help in any community project and favors for all those who knew him. His death is certainly a loss to this community. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: one son, Charles Kay of Covington Rt. 2; a grandson, John Charles Kay, who was three days old when his grandfather died; and one sister, Miss Hester Kay, of Lebanon. The pallbearers were: John Myers, Lloyd Ellis, A.A. LePage, Marvin Ludlow, H. Griffith Quirk, Richard Shelby, Don Sneath and E.H. O’Brien. Honorary pallbearers included: Ward Williams, Gene Brooks, Morris Poer, Marvin Cook, Mont Boatman, Forrest Songer, William Peterson, Paul Mann, Seth Harmon, James Creech, Ray Derringer, Richard Lewsader, Virgil Johnson, Allan Randolph, Roy C. Fenters, Vince Grogg, Ancil Marlatt, Charles Frey, John W. Massey, Fletcher Kerr, Sherman Small, Harold Hurley, Charles (Bud) Reed and Forrest Wallace. - kbz
Source: The obituary is from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's and 70's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana. The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.
Funeral services for Forrest Frederick (Jack) Kay, age 54, 424 Crocket St., Clerk of the Fountain Circuit Court for the past six years, were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, Dec. 26, at the Covington Methodist Church. The body was taken from the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home to the Church one hour before the services where many friends had assembled. The Rev. Donald Wade pastor of the church officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Masonic services were conducted by Richland Lodge 205, F. & A. M., of Newtown - typed by Barbara B.
