Elijah A. Kennedy, aged seventy-seven, a farmer and carpenter,
died at his home on the Overcoat road about five miles northeast
of this city at half-past ten Tuesday evening, his demise
resulting from the infirmities of old age and a complication of
heart trouble and dropsy.
Mr. Kennedy was born near Brown´s Valley in 1835 and has
been a resident of this county all of his life. While a young
man he moved to Smartsburg, residing at that place for a while,
and later going to the farm where he died. He was engaged in the
carpenter business for some time and at one time was a stock
buyer, but the greater portion of his life, he spent on the
farm.
In 1854, he was married to Miss Emily Misner, daughter of
Benjamin Misner, who was sheriff of Montgomery county at that
time. Mrs. Kennedy survives her husband. Five children, Albert,
who lives at the home, George, of this city, Benjamin, of Eagle
City, Alaska, Mrs. James Campbell, of this city, and Mrs. Ira
Henry, of Smartsburg, also survive. One sister, Mrs. Rebekah
Jones, of near Brown´s Valley, and a brother, John Kennedy,
of Russellville, are living.
Funeral services will be held from the late home at ten,
Friday morning and will be in charge of Rev. George Joseph, of
near New Ross. Interment will be made at Oak Hill Cemetery.
