Newtown – Russell A. Jones, 69, of Newtown died at 5 a.m. Thursday in the VA Hospital, Indianapolis. He had been in ill health since February 1985.  Mr. Jones had worked at Alcoa and national Homes, both in Lafayette. He later worked at various jobs in Newtown.  Born near Elizabethtown, KY Feb 1, 1917 he formerly lived in Montgomery County near Wingate and  spent most of his life in the Newtown area.  He attended school in Wingate and Newtown.  An Army veteran of WWII, he was a charter member of American Legion Post 394 in Newtown and a former member of VFW in Attica.  Surviving are two brothers, James Frank Jones of Attica and Jesse L. Jones of Newtown and three sisters, Mrs. Norma (Mona) Patton of Winter Park, Fla; Mrs. Beulah Barnhard of Indianapolis and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Green of Lafayette.

Jones, Russell A – Friends will be received at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, 5-9 p.m. today. Service in Maus Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday, the Rev. Harvey Lange officiating. Interment Newtown Cemetery with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 394, Newtown. Those desiring may contribute in memorial to Newtown Cemetery Association.
