Last Tuesday at her home, about eight miles south of this city, Mrs. Phoebe Jones, relict of John Jones, died at the advanced age of over 89 years. The funeral occurred at the home on Wednesday at 2 o'clock and the services were conducted by Rev. Burford. Interment at the old Indian Creek cemetery.  Aunt Phoebe Jones, as she was familiarly known, was born in Shelby county, Kentucky, Dec. 3, 1810, and was the daughter of Alexander Foster, a revolutionary soldier.  She was married to John Jones, April 17, 1832, in this county, having moved here a few years previous. She with a sister rode through from Kentucky on horseback, and her. husband entered the homestead where she died, sixty-seven years ago. The young couple lived in a rail pen until they raised a crop and then the cabin was built, they enduring all the hardships incident to settlers in a country. She was the mother of seven children, five of whom have preceded their mother to the other world Mrs. Jones was left a widow thirty three years ago and has since made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Nancy Servies, on the same farm she and her husband entered. She joined the Presbyterian Church when a girl in Kentucky and her life was a consistent Christian one. She was probably the oldest resident of the county at the time of her death and was loved and respected for her many Christian virtues – kbz

Mrs. Phoebe Jones died at her home south of the city Tuesday at the age of 89 years. The deceased was the widow of John Jones, who died some years ago. Mrs. Jones’ maiden name was Foster.  She was the daughter of a revolutionary soldier was born in Shelby County Kentucky in 1810. She came to this county in 1829. She was married to John Jones in 1832 and her husband entered the land where she died 67 years ago. Their first home was a rail pen.  This they occupied until a crop was raised and time found to build a cabin. She was the mother of seven children, two of whom are living. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nancy Servies, on the old home farm. She was a member of the Presbyterian church.  The funeral occurred Wednesday conducted by Elder Burford.
