McClelland Jones, Colored cook in the St. Nicholas Hotel for many years was stabbed to death in Cleveland Wednesday morning according to word received by his wife, Mr. Jones had been in Cleveland for the past three years. McClelland Jones was born in Crawfordsville, Ind December 22, 1878. He lived in Decatur for 2? years, the last 12 of which were spent as cook in the St. Nicholas Hotel. He was employed in the Amsterdam Hotel in Cleveland at the time he was killed. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Sadie Jones, two daughters, Mrs. Juanita Owens and Mrs. Bertha Mae Van Dyke of St. Louis, also leaves three brothers, Harry, Idaho, Sam and Harry of Marshall, Ind. the body was returned to Morgan & Sons undertaking. More than 500 persons attending the funeral of McClellan
Jones former negro chef in the St. Nicholas Hotel who was murdered in
Cleveland, O last week. The services were held in the Moran & Sons Chapel
Sunday afternoon. The ministers who aided in the services were: Rev. RH
Hackley, St. Peter’s AME; Rev HL Lee, Trinity CME; Rev. CJ Fields, Springfield;
Rev. AJ Crockett, Danville; Rev. Mr. McPherson, Antioch Baptist Church.
Services at Masonic Lodge No 17, colored of which he was a member and Knight
