Wingate-Kathryn E. ‘Katy’ Jones, 78 of Wingate, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 27, 2011 as a result of a brain aneurysm in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born in Hillsboro, IN on January 10, 1933, daughter of the late Leslie and Oveta Suitors Bell. On December 1, 1957 she married Dale L. Jones who survives. They moved to Wingate in 1957.
Katy graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1951 and was first employed by McDaniels Freight Lines in payroll. She retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a postal clerk in Lafayette after 20 years of service. She was an active member of the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ where she played the piano and organ for many years and currently served as financial secretary. She had served as a Girl Scout Leader in Hillsboro, member of the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO and had been active in the North Montgomery Band Boosters Organization.
Katy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed traveling to see family and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing anything with a keyboard, singing and cooking and enjoyed making Christmas a special family time.
Surviving are two sons; David (wife Becky) Jones of Little Hocking, OH and Mark (wife Patty) Jones of Kernersville, NC. Four grandchildren: Joshua (Fiancee’ Bailey Teague) Jones, Caleb Jones, Twins Taliana & Ezekiel Jones. Many nieces and nephews also survive. A sister Marjorie (Paul) Harshbarger of Hillsboro, a brother Donald (wife Anita) Bell of Terre Haute. Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister Eileen Lighty and brother Robert Bell.
The family will receive guests at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, Friday, July 29, 2011 4:00-8:00 pm. and 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 30th 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Alan Goff officiating, burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
