Roy Jolley, formerly of Hillsboro but of more recent years a resident of Crawfordsville was killed about 3 o’clock Friday morning when he was struck by the locomotive of a Big Four freight train at the bridge over Sugar Creek near the Country Club at Crawfordsville, Jolley and two railroad detectives were patrolling the track under the orders which were issued shortly after the railroad strike started. The deceased was 25 years old and was a son of Walter S. Jolley, foreman of the Big Four yards at Crawfordsville. The second section of this train was wrecked at Brownsburg the same day. Cuts and bruised on Jolley’s head led authorities to believe he might have been killed or mortally wounded and the body placed on the track to give a murder the aspect of an accident. Jolley had trouble with three men prowling about the Big Four Bridge over Sugar Creek west of Crawfordsville, Monday and Wednesday nights, preceding his death. He is survived by a wife and one child. - kbz
