Ross Belford Jolley, 40, son of Belford A. Jolley, 107 south Walnut street, died Wednesday night at the U. S. Naval hospital in Long Beach, Cal., according to word received here Thursday morning. His death followed a brain operation which he underwent at the naval hospital three weeks ago. Mr. Jolley, who was a World War II veteran with 22 years service in the Navy, spent his boyhood and young manhood in Crawfordsville. Mr. Jolley was born June 27, 1906 in Logansport. He came to Crawfordsville six years later, following the death of his mother, Mrs. Iva Goff Jolley. During his residence in this city he made his home with his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Jolley, with whom he lived until 1923 when he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. While a resident of Crawfordsville he attended the Methodist Sunday school, and played on the basketball teams of the Junior high school and the Sunday school. During World War II he served in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters of operation. He retired from active duty Oct. 1, 1945. Shortly after his retirement from service he returned to Crawfordsville. Until recently he resided at the home of a brother, Carl Jolley, of near Crawfordsville. Besides the father and brother, the survivors include the stepmother, Mrs. Myrtle A. Jolley of this city; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Carl Jolley; two nephews, Pvt. Carl A. Jolley, of Keesler field, Miss., and B. Ross Jolley of Crawfordsville, and several aunts and uncles. The body will be brought to the Hunt and Son Funeral home pending arrangements for the services.

Funeral rites for Ross B. Jolley, WWII veteran with 22 years of service in the Navy, will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be at Masonic cemetery here. THe body scheduled to arrive here at 2:55 o'clock Tuesday morning will be taken to the Hunt & Son Home where friends may pay their respects preceding the rites. It also was announced that Byron Cox Post of the American Legion will conduct military services at the graveside. Mr. Jolley, a former resident of this city whose father, Belford A. Jolley, lives at 107 South Walnut Street died Dec 18 at the US Naval Hospital in Long Beach, Cal. His death followed a brain operation.

Funeral Services for Ross B. Jolley, former Crawfordsville resident, who served 22 years in the Navy, were held Thursday morning at the Hunt and Son funeral home, with Byron Cox post of the American Legion conducting military rites at the graveside. Rev. Esmond Elliott and Rev. J. E. Dearman were the officiating ministers. Burial was at Masonic cemetery. Assisting at the rites as pall bearers were Harold Baldwin, Russell Miles, Darwin Doherty, Willard Gooden, Robert Jones and Ralph Deckard. The honorary pall bearers were W. A. Bowers, Ernest Warren, Charles Biggs, Dr. Caster Wilson and Clayton Eyler. Those who helped with the flowers included Lulu Miles, Mabel Burkhart, Lois Gooden, Pauline Milligan, Alberta Higgins, Lela Hester, Marjorie Hester, Donna Goff and Ruth Griggs. Mrs. Zelma See and Mrs. Dorothy Elmore sang “Whispering Hope” and “Beyond the Sunset” with Mrs. Roy Trout accompanying on the chapel organ. Those representing the Legion were Richard Crecelius, who commanded the escort, David Todd, Arthur Zachary, Fay Williams, Alvin Ricklefs, Jr., George A. Burns, Stanley Thompson, D. C. Graham, Robert Payne and Richard Wilhite. Mr. Jolley, who had served continuously in the Navy from 1923 to 1945, died Dec. 18 at the U. S. naval hospital in Long Beach, Cal., following a brain operation. He was born in Logansport but spent his boyhood in Crawfordsville where he attended school.

Crawfordsville – Military rites were Thursday for Ross B. Jolley, former resident of Crawfordsville, who served 22 years in the Navy. Mr. Jolley died in Long Beach, Cal following a brain operation.  Born in Logansport he had spent his boyhood in Crawfordsville. He retired from the Navy last December.
