Thomas B. Johnson, an old and highly respected citizen, died very suddenly Sunday morning at the home of his daughter near Decatur, Ill. Mr. Johnson moved to this county in 1861 from Thorntown and settled near New Market, where he has resided until about 5 years ago when he removed to Wichita, Kas. Recently he determined to move back to his old home to end his days among relatives and old friends and was on his way when death overtook him. He stopped off at Decatur to visit his daughter and retired Saturday night in the very best of health and spirits. He was awake and alive at 5 p.m. (sic) Sunday when the family arose but an hour later when summoned to breakfast did not respond and was found to be cold in death. The deceased was 83 years of age and has three children residing n this vicinity. The remains were brought here on this afternoon’s train and taken to the Masonic cemetery for interment. – transcribed by kbz

Thomas B. Johnson lived near New Market until about five years ago when he went to Wichita, Kansas. A short time ago he deiced to return to this county to end his days, he being 83 years old. He started and got as far as Decatur, Ill., where he stopped to visit a married daughter. On Saturday night he retired in his usual good health and was feeling well at five o’clock yesterday morning, but between that time and six, when he was alone, he quietly passed away. The remains were brought here and interred in the Masonic Cemetery. - s
