Rachel Johnson, daughter of Joseph and Jemima Cox Johnson was born March 24, 1868 six miles east of Crawfordsville in the Gravelly Run neighborhood. On May 1, 1941 at the home of Mabel and Rena Quigg within one-half mile of her birthplace, her spirit left its earthly house to take up its abode in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one sister and two brothers. She is survived by several nieces and nephews – the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of the late Tacy Johnson Quigg of the Gravelly Run community and W. Ed Johnson of Joplin, Missouri. Many cousins and a host of friends are also grieved because of their loss. “Ratie” and “Aunt Ratie” as she was called by friends and relatives had as the abiding principle of her life this belief “the church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord.” She was a faithful; and loyal member of the Gravelly Run Friends Church and always maintained a keen interest in community, civic and state affairs. She lived an unselfish life doing for others as long as health permitted. Those who knew her best know that she was firm and steadfast in her beliefs and convictions, courageous in meeting discouragements, faithful in discharging duty, and thankful for all the good things of life.
