LADOGA — Melvin Johnson, 61, of Rt. 2 Ladoga, died about 4 p.m. Monday at his home. Montgomery County Coroner Russell Powers said Mr. Johnson took his own life. Mr. Johnson was employed by Mid-States Steel & Wire Co. and was a farmer. Born Oct. 9, 1914, at Morris Fork, Ky., he was a son of Charlie and Dolly Sadlin Johnson. He was married to Pearle Smith who survives. Also surviving are a son, Herman, of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Marie Claycomb of Ladoga; two brothers, Price of Ladoga and Alex of Jamestown; six sisters, Mattie Hearld of Beatysville, Ky., Ida Barrott of Ladoga, Cora Green of Morristown, Tenn., Polly Barrott of Mars Hill, Kanola Rice of Booneville, Ky., and Arlena Rogers of Crawfordsville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Perkins Funeral Home at Ladoga with burial in Ladoga Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.--waw
