Mrs. Fountain N. Johnson died at her home in Crawfordsville early on Sunday morning. She has been in poor health for a number of years, yet her death came as a surprise. Funeral service were held at the home on Tuesday afternoon. Burial at Maple Ridge Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson, whose maiden name was Mary Virginia Brown, came of distinguished parentage. She was the daughter of Dr. Ryland T. and Mary Reeder Brown and was born in Crawfordsville Aug. 13, 1846. The father was a pioneer physician of Rush County and one of the founders of the Christian Church in Indiana. After he was 40 years old he took his Master's Degree from Wabash College. He was the chief chemist of the National Agricultural Dept. under Pres. Garfield. She was first married to Dr. Wiley of Crawfordsville. To them was born one daughter, Mrs. Martha Cuppy of Torrence, Calif. After his death, she married Fountain North Johnson who died in May 7 years ago. There are two sons surviving: Dr. Thomas B. Johnson of Ben Davis and Theodore N. Johnson of Crawfordsville and one stepson, John A. Johnson of Crawfordsville. For many years she made her home in Waveland where she was closely identified with the community and the Christian Church. She was one of the teachers in the Sunday School and her many pupils now middle aged men and women scattered all over the country will be sorry to hear of the death of "Aunt Mate." -- typed by kbz
Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal -- Mary V. JOHNSON 91, a resident of this city for many years, died at her home 409 S. Washington Street at an early hour Sunday monring a victim of heart trouble. Mrs. Johnson had been in poor health for some time. She was born in this city on Aug 13, 1864 the daughter of Dr. Ryland T. and Mary Brown. On Nov 16, 1881 she became the wife of Fountain N. Johnson. During her early life she moed from this city to Indianapolis and following her marriage she moved to Waveland where she resided 26 years. She later moved back to this city, which was her home until death. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Martha Cappy of Torrance, California, two sons, Theodore N. Johnson of this city and Dr. Thomas B. Johnson of Indianapolis, and one stepson, John A. Johnson of this city. The funeral will be held from the home, 409 S. Washington Street at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial made at Maple Ridge Cemetery. --- typed by kbz
