Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal, 18 August 1888
Jeremiah "Jere" Johnson died at his home in this city Wednesday at 4 o'clock after a short illness. The deceased was 68 years of age and had been a resident of Crawfordsville for a long time. The disease which caused his death was pneumonia. He stealthily refused to take medicine, saying he would get well without it. or not at all. He has built, many of the sidewalks and gutters of this city and his work was nearly always acceptable to his employer and the city. With his one arm—the other having been lost by a premature discharge of a cannon years ago—he could accomplish as much work as many men with both hands. The funeral took place on Friday from the Baptist church at 10 o'clock. Rev. G. P. Fuson officiating. - thanks to Kim H
