James JOHNSON, a former resident of this community was killed by a freight train near the Speedway in Indianapolis on Saturday. Ben Johnson, a nephew, was notified and HC Machledt went over and took charge of the body. A short funeral service was conducted a the grave in Maple Ridge on Monday by Rev. NT Gottschall and Rev. EC Green, a colored Minister who with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Edwards with whom Mr. Johnson had roomed were here from Indianapolis for the funeral. Others present were Mr. and mrs. William Johnson of Fairbury, ill; Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Crow of Milligan and Robert crow of Bainbridge. Mr. Johnson was the son of Henry and Letitia Johnson and was born near Beaumont, Ky July 7, 1881. He was buried by the side of his mother, who at the time of her death was living on East Howard Street. He is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Mattie Branstetter of Beautmont, Ky; and Mrs. Mary Crow of Milligan ; and by two nephews, Robert Crow of Bainbridge and Ben Johnson of Waveland. - transcribed by kbz
