Covington -- Services will be 2 p.m. EST Monday at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington for Harrell H. Johnson who taught school in western Indiana for 40 years. Johnson of Covington, died at 1:03 a.m. Friday April 4 1980 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. He had been in ill health for four months. The Rev. Robert H. Miller officiate. Burial will be Waynetown masonic Cemetery with graveside military services. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where family members will be present from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Johnson taught for 10 years in Waynetown schools before taking a job at Covington High School, where he taught chemistry and other sciences for 30 years. He was retired. He was a member of the First United Methodist church, the national and Indiana retired teachers Associations, Fulton Banta American Legion Post 291 and the Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. he served in the Army medical corps in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a graduate of Kingman High school. He had a bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago and a master's degree from Indiana State University at Terre Haute. He also did further graduate work at Indiana State. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, lawn care, flower raising and other outdoor activities. born Jan 10 1908 in Warren County, he was a son of Dr. Earl E. and Lavina McCarty Johnson. he married Lois Ingersoll June 24 1933. She survives. Other survivors include a brother, Theodore of Kingman and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Paul. - kbz
