Johnson - Chilion
Source: Crawfordsville Star, July 26, 1883 p 6
Chillion (sic) Johnson is dead and in his death we note the departure of another of the nearly exhausted list of noble old pioneer citizens who were present at the early christening of the city of Crawfordsville who have nurtured it in its weakness and at the end of a long, a peaceful and industrious life, have laid down their crosses and folded tired and honest hands in the dreamless sleep of perfect rest. Chillian (sic) Johnson was born in 1801. He arose as usual at an early hour on last Saturday morning, but said he felt tired. His daughter, Mrs. Col. Blair, with whom he made his home, urged him to lie down and rest a little while longer. She looked in on him an hour later. The good old man's hands were peacefully folded across his breast. A pleased smile was upon his face. He had solved the mystery of life. He was dead. The funeral services were held on Monday morning at the residence of Col. Blair. The sermon was by Elder Lot Southard of the old Baptist Church, prayer by Eld. MM Vancleave of the same church. The remains were interred in Oak Hill Cemetery. Chillion (sic) Johnson was long identified with the business interests of our city but in the last 10 years the younger generation had lost sight of him as he was kept at home by reason of failing health. He was father to Mrs. WP Britton, Mrs. Col. Blair and Mrs. R.F. Beck - typed by kbz
Note: Chillion Johnson is not on findagrave but in the cemetery listing of Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville District Public Library, it is spelled as I'd always seen it CHILION - kbz -- however, he has been added since I made this in 2010 to the Old Town Cemetery 24 July 1800 birth spelled Chilion
