NEW MARKET – Miss Helen E. Johnson, 64, retired school teacher of Rt. 1, Ladoga, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette after a short illness. She had taught school 40 years, the last 20 years in Porter County Schools, before her retirement. Earlier she had taught in Montgomery County. She was a graduate of New Market High School and was educated also at Madam Blaker School at Indianapolis, Butler University and Franklin College. A daughter of Bert C. and Dora Wray Johnson, she was born near New Market on Oct. 22, 1904. Surviving are three brothers, Albert W. of Crawfordsville, Walter F. of Kirklin and Paul K. of Rt. 1, Ladoga, and nieces and nephews. A brother and a nephew are deceased. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Reeves Funeral Home with Rev. Esmond Elliott of Indianapolis the minister and burial in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today. – jlr
