Jennison - Albert C.

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Review June 5, 1908 p 1

Word was received here today that Albert C. Jennison, Sr, one of the most prominent and highly respected citizens of this city had died at 8 o’clock this morning at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Pickert in Madison, Wis. Mr. Jennison accompanied by his wife went to Madison about 3 weeks ago. In the hospital in that city he underwent an operation which revealed his trouble was scerois or hardening of the liver. On Decoration Day he was removed to the home of his wife’s mother where he passed away this morning with the wife and his only son Albert Jr. of this city at his bedside. Mr. Jennison had been in poor health several years and in the winter of 1906 made a trip to Mentone, France in the hope of improving his condition. While there, however, he suffered a hemorrhage of the liver and it was thought for a time that he would not recover. He later returned home and from that time on, seemed to grow weaker each day. Born in this city in October 1842 he had spent all of his life here and had always been actively identified with the interests of the city. A graduate of Wabash College with the class of 1865, he had intended to follow a legal career and studied law under John M. Butler, but owing to poor health was obliged to abandon his plans and for many years had been in the abstract business here. During the Civil War he served about a year as a cavalryman but owing to his health was finally given an honorable discharge.  He was a member of Center Presbyterian Church of this city, having been a member of that denomination since early boyhood. At the time of his death he was an elder in Center Church.  When the North Side Mission was established by the Center Congregation, Mr. Jennison donated the ground on which the Mission was located and always took an active part in the work until the Civic League took charge of the mission.  Ever since the organization of the Oak Hill Cemetery Association he had been manager and secretary. Fraternally he was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge of this city and McPherson Post GAR. He was twice married, first to Mary Cumberland now deceased and second in 1900 to Anna Pickerts of Madison, Wis. The last wife and son, albert Jr. who graduates from Wabash College next week survive him. One son, John Butler Jennison is dead.  He also leaves two sisters in this city, Mrs. Frances Harrison and Mrs. Philo Harrison who recently sustained a stroke of paralysis and is at the present time in serious condition.  The body will arrive in this city Friday noon and will be taken to the home where funeral services will probably be held Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Clarence Hall Wilson officiating.  Interment will occur at Oak Hill cemetery.
