Source: Crawfordsville Journal Review, June 11, 1925
Margaret Elizabeth Jenkins was born July 15th, 1851, in Sharon, Pa, and died June 10, 1925, in this city, aged 73 years, 10 months and 25 days. She received her education in the public schools of Ohio and Pennsylvania, afterwards taking academic work at Sharon, Pa. She taught for several years in the public schools of these states, being very successful in her work. She was married to Rev. E. J. Jenkins, November 18, 1873. She was the mother of eight children, all of whom are living. She was a member of the United Brethern church for more than 45 years, of which church, Rev. Jenkins, who died nine years ago, was an active and prominent minister. For a number of years they made their home in Ohio and Pennsylvania, afterwards coming to Illinois and Indiana where most of the active years of his ministry were spent. The last fifteen years of Mrs. Jenkins’ life were spent in Crawfordsville. She was an ideal minister’s wife. No sacrifice was too great for her to make, in the interest of the Lord’s work. She was active in the Ladies’ Aid and Missionary societies of the church and for many years a teacher in the Sunday School. She was a tither, and very conscientious about the Lord’s money. Truly her life was an inspiration to her husband, to her children, and to the host of friends who loved and admired her. She leaves to mourn their loss one brother and a sister in California, one sister in Pennsylvania and the following children: Oliver of Berkley, California, George, Walter and Miss Amy of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Anna Swaim of Tangier, Indiana, Mrs. Laura Malm of Billings, Montana, Mrs. Evelyn Kennedy of Center Point, Indiana, Mrs. Alice Sweetnam, of Los Angeles, California, also six granechildren. Funeral services were held in the U. B. Church in Crawfordsville by Rev. John McHargue of Kingman and Rev. A. M. Snyder of Crawfordsville. – jlr
