Mrs. Phyllis E. Jeffrey, 45, of 18 Pleasant Run, a 14 year employee of First National Bank and Trust Co., died Thursday in Culver Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Jeffrey worked as an IBM proof operator for that financial institution. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and past worthy matron of Athens Chapter 97. Her other memberships included Business and Professional Women, American Business Women's Club and American Institute of Banking. She was also a member of the First Christian Church of Crawfordsville. She served as president of worthy matrons and worthy patrons. Naomi's Starlighters, from 1969 through 1971, was chairman of the Women's Committee of AIB in 1970, president of Princess Bowling League in 1969-1970 and treasure of American Business Women in 1969. Born May 15,1929, at Rensselair, she was a daughter of Vilas and Lillian Waling Jacks. She attended schools in Jasper County and was graduated from New Market High School. She was married Sept 5, 1949, to Lewis C. Jeffrey. He survives. Other survivors include her father residing at Ladoga; a son, Lewis Jr., of New Ross; two daughters, Mrs. Debra Astin of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Deanna Plunkett of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Mrs. Vivian McClellan of Ladoga and Mrs. Catherine Young of Lafayette, a brother, Donald Jacks of Fort Wayne and four grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Burkhart Funeral Home here with the Rev. Howard F. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. OES memorial services will be conducted in the funeral home at 8 o'clock.
