Jarvis - John

Mrs. Chas. McCullough and Misses Opal and Velma were here from Crawfordsville Saturday to attend the funeral of John Jarvis.
John Jarvis died at the home of his daughters on West Main Street, Thursday night after suffering several weeks with gangrene in the foot. The funeral services at the home on Saturday afternoon were conducted by Rev. SD Watts. Interment at the Smith cemetery east of town. Mr. Jarvis was born in Fleming County KY Sept 22, 1821. When he was 14, his parents moved to Parke County and settled near Dooley Station. December 4, 1845, he married Mary Smith. Their children were: John W and William. Mrs. Emily Moore. Mrs. Eliza Sturgeon; Mrs. Chas. McCullough; Mrs. Virginia Courtney. Elizabeth and Margaret and Alice who is dead. In his boyhood, Mr. Jarvis joined the Christian Church. He was doing well in a business way until about 40 years ago his mind became clouded. Since that time he has led the life of a recluse, until about two years ago when he once more began to mingle with his fellow men – kbz
