Clark Jarvis, a former resident of this vicinity, died in an Indianapolis hospital. The Machledt ambulance brought him here and funeral services at the Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon were in charge of Rev. Cecil Franklin. The pall bearers were Max White, Clay, Jess, Nathan, Henry and Ben Jarvis. The flowers were carried by Owen Kelly and Jules Grimes. Burial was at the Jarvis Cemetery on the Dix farm, southwest of town. The following obituary was read: "Clark Jarvis died at an Indianapolis hospital on Thursday night after an illness of several years. The deceased was born o a farm in Parke Co just south of Waveland, 80 years ago, Feb 1, 1853, the son of Nathan and Rachel Jarvis. He was married to Lilly Josephine Dooley (1881) 52 years ago and to this union were born two daughters, Eulala and Ione. He attended school in Parke County and the Waveland Academy. He became a member of the Waveland Christian Church in 1894 and served in this church in the capacity of deacon while living in this community. Mr. Jarvis was preceded in death by his wife who died September 5, 1912 and daughter, Eulala. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Iona Shepherd of Rockville; an adopted son, Cyril Jarvis of Greencastle; a granddaughter, Mrs. Josephine Watkins, of Rockville; and two brothers James of Parke County and Thornton of Cayuga. Mr. Jarvis was a successful farmer and a respected citizen in this community for many years, and last lived on the farms now owned by Mrs. Laura Bushong and OE Stansbury. He served as assessor of Green Township, and while here belonged to the Odd Fellows and Masonic fraternities. He worked for a time at the Indiana Girls' School at Clermont, and lately was employed as a baker in Indianapolis. - transcribed by kbz
