William Thomas JAMES, better known here as Billie James who spent most of his life on a farm near Freedom died Monday morning at his home in Crawfordsville of the infirmaties of old age. He was born October 9, 1855 near Waveland, the son of Peter and Susan Conner James. Mr. James was united in marriage with Mary Ann Peyton in 1884, the wife preceding him in death two years ago. He was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church and had been active in the affairs of the church for several years. Surviving are one son, Fred James of this city, four sisters, Mrs. Pearl McCaw of New Market; Mrs. Grace Thompson of San Bernardino, California. Mrs. Martha Canine of Waveland, Indiana and Mrs. Cora Deere of Alhambra, California, one brother, Robert James of Clinton and 3 grandchildren, Kenneth, Marilyn and Jane Hendrix all of Crawfordsville. Besides the wife, 3 sons and a daughter preceding him in death. Funeral services were held at 3 Wednesday afternoon at Proffit & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Gronseth of the first Baptist Church officiating. Burial at Freedom Cemetery. - kbz
