Samuel D. Irvine died at the home of John V. Milligan, south of town, at midnight on Tuesday night. Mr. Irvine was stricken by apoplexy two weeks ago, and grew steadily worse. Rev. A.S. Buchanan, of Indianapolis, conducted funeral services at the Ladoga Presbyterian Church on Thursday afternoon. The services at the Cemetery were under direction of Ridgely Lodge, IOOF [Independent Order of Odd Fellows] Ladoga. The following obituary is contributed: Samuel D. Irvine, son of William A. and Eliza E. Irvine, was born at Harrodsburg, KY, Aug 12, 1851 and died at Waveland, May 26, 1914, at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 14 days. He was the youngest child of a family of 7, five boys and two girls, four brothers and one sister having preceded him in death. The one remaining child of this family is his sister, Mrs. Tillie A. Penn, of Cutler, IN. Mr. Irwin (sic) was married to Mary Hostetter Sept 4, 1884, and to this union were born two children, Fred Penn Irvine (sic) and Helen Hostetter Irvine. Helen has been staying with her parents at Waveland and Fred is a student at Wabash College. In his early youth Mr. Irvine united with the Presbyterian Church. He was officially connected with the Presbyterian Church at Ladoga and Roachdale and also with the Home Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis of which Church he was a member at death. Mr. Irwin (sic) was an Elder in the Church 22 years. Mr. Irvine was also a member of the Odd Fellows having his membership at Ladoga. His membership in this lodge dates back 31 years. With the departure of Mr. Irvine we lose from our midst a loving and faithful husband and father, a consistent Christian, a faithful Odd Fellow and a helpful and considerate neighbor. - kbz
