Hugh IRVIN died at his home on the Jackson King farm 3 miles north of Newtown Saturday evneing April 14 about 8:30 having seriously the Sunday before with them of lung trouble which has been so very fatal in that locality during the past 2 months. Mervin was born in Fountain County February 12, 1854 and therefore had just passed his 46th birthday. He was married to Miss Fannie Baron Feb 12, 1885. He leaves her with a family of 5 small children, the oldest being about 13. He has six sisters two of whom Mrs. Ben Crane of Rob Roy and Mrs. Ben Carpetner of Mellott are well known in this county. Another single sister, Miss Elda Irvin is lying sick in his home, having been taken while nursing her brother. Hugh Irvin was not a church member but was one of the most straighforward and upright men of the county and numbered his friends by the hundreds. He was universally liked and repsected. The funeral at the Baptist Church Newtown on Monday afternoon was one of the largest ever seen in Newtown. It was conducted by Rev. JP Henson. His was a very sad one and the family has the sympathy on their grief. - kbz
