Robert Irons was born in Ohio Nov 5, 1827. With his family he moved to Montgomery County in Sep t1855 which he continued to live until the day of his death, which occurred Sept 10, 1872 (sic – in 30 May 1872 so 1871). He possessed more than ordinary matured powers of mind, powers which qualified him for usefulness as a citizen, and for the accompolishment of good in the church. As a Christian he was interested in behalf of God’s cause and labored with his talents and means for its advancement. He was gifted in prayer, earnest and impressive in exhortation, and safe in council. For a number of years he filled, to the honor of the church, the offices of steward and class leader. He was a delegate to the session of the lay electoral conference, held in Crawfordsville Sept 8, 1872 (sic) but his last sickness prevented his attendance. In the death of Brother Irons we all feel that the community has lost a valuable citizen and that one of the pillars of Zion has been removed. Besides his widowed wife and four children, a large circle of relatives and friends mourn their loss. WGV
