Herschel Ingersoll, 51, WWII veteran and retired teacher and farmer died at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis early Thursday morning. He had been a patient at the hospital for the past 7 months.  Mrs. Ingersoll was born on a farm near Waynetown the son of Clayton and Rebecca Moffett Ingersoll. He was one of a family of 9 children.  As a youth, Mr. Ingersoll attended Waynetown HS. Following his graduation there he entered Wabash College and later attended Indiana University where he was graduated. He was a member of the class of 1925 at Wabash.  For a number of years following his graduation Mr. Ingersoll was a school teacher. He was with the Waynetown schools for approximately 15 years, resigned his position as principal to enter the Navy in WWII.  Four brother and four sisters survive. Brothers are Paul Ingersoll and Ralph Ingersoll both of Hillsboro; James Ingersoll of Wingate and Lloyd Ingersoll of Waynetown who is employed in Crawfordsville with RR Donnelley & Sons.  Sisters are Mrs. Ralph Bounnell of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Samuel Woodruff of Frankfort; Mrs. Harrell Johnson of Covington and Mrs. Williams Munns of Bloomington. Funeral arrangements were incomplete Thursday afternoon. The body will be at Grenard & Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. – kbz

Waynetown, Jan 1 – A service flag will be dedicated Sunday morning at Ingersoll Church for Ernest Ellis, Gwendolyn McKee, Paul Guy Ingersoll, Lloyd Ingersoll, Ralph Ingersoll and Herschel Ingersoll. The last four are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Ingersoll who reside just over the line in Fountain County.  A service flag will also be dedicated Sunday morning at the Baptist Church by Rev. Funeral services for Herschel Ingersoll, who formerly resided near Hillsboro were held from the Grenard and Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Guy E. Tremain charge.  Burial was in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.  Herschel Ingersoll, 151, World War II veteran and retired teacher and farmer died at the Veteran’s Hospital in Indianapolis early Thursday morning June 18.  He had been a patient at the hospital for the past 7 months.  He was born on a farm in the Ingersoll neighborhood southeast of Hillsboro, the son of Clayton and Rebecca Moffett Ingersoll and was one of a family of nine children.  As a youth, Mr. Ingersoll attended Waynetown HS. Following his graduation he entered Wabash College and later attended Indiana University where he was graduated.  He was a member of the class of 1925 of Wabash.  He taught school for a number of years and was associated with the Waynetown School for 15 years, having been granted a leave of absence as principal to enter the Navy where he served during World War II.  He taught at Waynetown one year after his discharge from the Navy.  He is survived by four brothers and four sisters: brothers are Paul G. Ingersoll and Ralph Ingersoll of Hillsboro; James Ingersoll of Wingate and Lloyd Ingersoll of Waynetown. Sisters are: Mrs. Ralph Bounell of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Samuel Woodruff of Frankfort; Mrs. Harrell Johnson of Covington and Mrs. William Munns of Bloomington.
