In the death of Jacob Hutton, which occurred at his home on Whitlock Avenue last Saturday evening there passed away a man whose noble and unostentatious life proved a blessing to the community in which he lived. The day before his death was his 75th birthday. Two weeks before his death he was taken down with the grippe, which brought on heart failure and he gradually grew weaker until the end. Mr. Hutton was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia and with his father came to this county in about 1832.  In 1865 he bought the present farm where he has since resided.  He was twice married, his second wife surviving him. To the first union were born Treasurer JC Hutton, Harmon Hutton, Mrs. Francis Clements and Henry Hutton.  Mr. Hutton was closely identified with the best interests of the county and his voice and influence were heard and felt in every good word and work.  He was thoroughly democratic in politics and although he had never held a county office he had time and again occupied positions of trust in private enterprises.  His unflinching integrity could always be relied upon.  He had been a tireless worker on the fair board since the organization’s birth. The funeral services occurred at 2 o’clock on Tuesday and interment in Oak Hill. - kbz
