The motorman Hollis H. Baugh could not have averted the accident of Thursday evening when the buggy in which James Hutchinson was riding was struck by a Ben Hur car at Ryan's crossing in the east end of the city, instantly killing the aged man, seems to have been established in the inquest conducted Friday by Acting Coroner TW Sutton. Justice Sutton examined a number of witnesses and the testimony of all bor eout the fact that the motorman of the car was blameless. Bounding a curve just before crossing Elmore Street the car's headlight did not give the motorman a clear view of the track until the buggy had been driven in front of the car and at that time there was no chances of stopping in time to avoid striking the rig. Traction officials believe Mr. Hutchinson's head was struck by the headlight of the car and think a bolt that protrudes at the side of the light inflicted the deep gash in the man's temple. That he might have escaped death had not this bolt struck him is the belief of the traction employees. His body was not mangled and the injuries about his face might not havve proved fatal is the opinion. The gash cut in his temple was deep, reaching into the brain and death probably resulted instantly from this wound. Funeral services were held for the well known man from the home of his foster son, Zeb Scaggs south Pine Street this afternoon. The services was in charge of Elmer MM Canine for years a friend of the deceased. Mrs. SP Templeton and Mrs. Bruce Haines sang a number of hymns during the service. A large numer of the dead man's friends attended the funeral. The pallbearers who laid the body to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery were Hal Martin, Tobe Harris, James Swisher, Mel Scaggs, William Doyle and Henry Chadwick.- kbz
