Darlington – Leonard “Hutch” Hutchens, 83 year old Darlington resident died Sunday morning at his home. Until he retired in 1967 he had been self-employed as a blacksmith, fur buyer, scrap dealer and fence builder. A native of Thorntown, he was a son of Daniel and Mary Elizabeth Brown Hutchens and was born Jan 14, 1886. He was married Sept 1, 1909 to Grace Jennings in Crawfordsville. They lived south of Darlington, then in Parke County and returned to Darlington in 1922. He was a member of Sugar Plain Friends Church at Thorntown and the IOOF Lodge in which he had several offices at Colfax. Survivors include his wife; a son, Wilbur of Darlington; three daughters, Mrs. Robert Davenport of Darlington, Mrs. Jack Rupp of Cucamonga, Calif and Mrs. Donald Swarat of Crawfordsville; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters are deceased. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bright Funeral Home in Darlington with Rev. Willard H. Eckroth officiating and burial in IOOF Cemetery here. Darlington – Leonard (Hutch) Hutchens, 83 of Darlington died early Sunday morning in his home. He had been in failing health several months. Mr. Hutchens, a self employed blacksmith was born in Thorntown. After his marriage in 1909 in Crawfordsville to Grayce Jennings, they lived south of Darlington. In 1922 they moved to Darlington. He was a member of Sugar Plains Friends Church in Thorntown and IOOF of which he held several offices in Colfax. Surviving with the widow are one son, Wilbur of Darlington; three daughters, Mrs. Robert Davenport of Darlington; Mrs. Donald Swarat of Crawfordsville; and Mrs. Jack Rupp of Cucamonga, Calif and a granddaughter who was reared in his home, Mrs. Leon Flick of Rt 1, New Ross.
