Meachum Hurst (sic), a well known citized (sic) of Clark township, committed suicide by hanging Thursday, June 21, at the home of his son, less than a mi. E. of Ladoga. he had been subject to spells of mental disorder at intervals, and it was during one of these periods of derangement that the rash deed was committed. Along about 2 o'clock Mr. Hurst went to the barn and having adjusted a rope to a beam he swung off a ladder. He had been dead probably an hour when the discovery was made. The deceased was 69 years of age and was a widower. Since the death of his wife last December, he had made his home with his son. Two brothers have died within the past year and these, together with the demise of his wife worked up on his mind. Dr. Keegan held the inquest and rendered a verdict of death by strangulation, in accordance with the facts as above stated.

Made melancholly by numerous deaths in his family, Meachan Hurt on last Thursday committed suicide at his home 1/2 mi E. of Ladoga. About half past two o'clock his son had occasion to enter the barn and on opening the d oor was horrified to find the body of his father hanging from a beam. The body was still warm but life had fled. Dr. Keegan was called from Craw fordsville to hold a coroner's inquest and returned a verdict of suicide. Mr. Hurt was 69 years of age and of late had been the victim of a deep melancholly. Last December his wife was fatally burned and two of his brothers died within the year. These misfortunes rested heavily upon him and no doubt unbalanced his mind. he was a man well respected in the community.

Ladoga, Ind June 23 0 Meakin Hurt, 69 years old, who has been failing mentally since the death of his wife one year ago, committed suicide by hanging, his body being found suspended from a rafter in a barn, He adjusted the rop and then jumped from the loft.
