David Charles Hunter, an aged and
well known resident of Crawfordsville, passed away in his room at the Duncan
House, 220 South Washington Street about 9:20 o’clock Thursday morning. Mr.
Hunter suffered a severe stroke of paralysis Wednesday night and never fully
recovered from the effects. Mr. Hunter was a veteran of the Civil War, having
served his country in Company G, 31st Indiana. He was a member of
McPherson post of this city. He was 68 years, 5 months and 22 days old, having
been born in Bloomington, Ind Feb 1, 1843, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs.
William A. Hunter. His wife, Phoebe A. Hunter, preceded him in death about a
year ago and one son, Mort Hunter, died recently. He is survived by one son,
John Hunter of this city. Mr. Hunter was a carpenter by trade. Early Thursday
morning he arose and partially dressed. About 4 o’clock he was found in his
room lying across some of his carpenter tools. His watch had been smashed and
had stopped at 1:17 o’clock and there were several bruises on his body, head
and shoulders. His left side was completely paralyzed, but he was able to
converse with relatives and friends until about 9:20 this morning when the end
came. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock. Members of
the GAR will act as pall bearers and Rev. A. Plunkett will conduct the
services. Burial will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery. - kbz
