Walter L. Hunt, 81, founder of the Hunt & Son Funeral Home, died Saturday evening at the Rockville Sanitorium where he had been a patient two months. He had been seriously ill since last November when he suffered chest injuries in a fall at his home. Born Nov. 28, 1874, near Mace, Mr. Hunt was the son of Samuel and Jennie Coulter Hunt. He married Georgianna Bowman. Sept. 20, 1896. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Montgomery Lodge No. 50 F&AM, Athens Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Crawfordsville Elks and Eagles lodges and the Mace K of P Lodge. Mr. Hunt, who had been in business 58 years, began his business career in Advance where he operated a mortuary and furniture store from 1898 to 1907. He founded the Hunt Funeral Home here in 1907 and had been active in the business until his health failed last fall. Surviving are a son, Robert Hunt, who was associated with his father; three daughters, Mrs. Walter Mullikin and Mrs. Fred Houlehan, both of Crawfordsville, and Miss Esther Hunt of Indianapolis; a brother, Harley Hunt, of McCordsville; a sister, Mrs. Alvin Howard of Ladoga; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter, Lesther Hunt. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday, followed by burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Rev. George T. King will be the officiating minister. Friends may call at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Monday.
