NELLIE FERN ROBERTSON HUNT

Source: Waveland Independent Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana Nov 5, 1926

God, in his infinite mercy, has again shown that we know not what a day may bring forth. The Angel of Death has visited another home and taken from this world of sorrow and suffering one whom we all loved. Nellie Fern Robertson Hunt was born in Waveland, Aug 6, 1890 and was called to her reward Monday morning, Oct 18. After a brief illness she fell asleep in Jesus to whom she gave her heart at the age of 12, and united with the Methodist Church at Waveland. She was the youngest daughter of Thomas and Mary Robertson. She lived her entire life in this vicinity. She married Harrison Hunt, Feb 15, 1913. To them were born one daughter, Evelyn Verniece the idol of her parents. She and her mother were exceptionally devoted to each other and were seldom seen apart. No one can take the place of mother and her untimely death has cast a gloom over the entire community in which she lived and mingled. She possessed a quiet and unassuming nature and was ever a ready friend and neighbor in time of need. She will be missed sadly by all who knew her. She realized the battle for life was against her yet she made a brave fight and endured her great suffering with extreme patience. While conscious at times she made plans for her funeral, selecting her pall bearers and flower bearers and requested that "The Old Rugged Cross" be sung. She also told her husband only a few moments prior to her passing away that she would like to die at home, but as that could not be to tell her friends "Goodbye," and that all was well with her soul. On that last sad night the nurse and near friends watched close beside her, fearing a struggle at the end; but all was peace. She opened her eyes for one last look into the beloved eyes of husband and daughter, whose loving and constant care had done so much for her; closed them, and almost before they were aware, she calmly and quietly passed into the haven of rest. 'Twas finished - the conflict over - her heaven borne spirit had fled - and she thereafter shall wear a crown of life. All that loving hands and medical skill could do to restore her to health was done but to no avail. She is survived by a loving husband and daughter, a devoted father and two sisters: Anna at home and Mrs. Bessie Fels of Newcastle; Mr. & Mrs. Sam Hunt and Mr. & Mrs. Joe Patton, who feel keenly the sting of death. Her mother preceded her to the grave by 12 years. Funeral services were conducted on Wed. morning, Oct 20 at the Baptist Church in Browns Valley and were in charge of Rev. JB Johnson of Flora. The beautiful floral offerings and extremely large concourse of friends were evidence of the esteem in which she was held. Three impressive songs were sung. Pall bearers were: Fannie Deere, Faye Welch, Frances Lydick, Inez Bayless, Mrs. Omer Whitlock and Mrs. James Bank. Flower girls were: Mable and Mayme Patton, Margarett Moody, Gayle Foster, Ina Trump, Doris Gooding, Doris Simpson and Grace Bank. kbz
