The towns people of Waveland (Indiana) were stunned Saturday night Oct 1st as the news went the rounds that James L. Hunt had been killed at the Mellott Speedway race track when his car struck a guard rail and turned end over end crushing him beneath it. Hunt had been a resident of Waveland about a year and had been racing this season at the Hot Rod Races in Waveland and other places. He and his brother, Robert, manager of the Shades State Park, were owners of a filling station on Highway 47 at Waveland (Indiana).

Covington, Ind., Oct 3 - A "hot rod" race driver was killed Saturday night when his racing car overturned at the Mellott speedway. The victim was James L. Hunt, 21, Waveland. His car hit a guard rail, flopped over and pinned him in the debris. He died after arrival at Culver hospital in Crawfordsville.
