HILLSBORO —Mrs. Pearl Humphreys, 82, of Hillsboro died at 5:30 a.m. Monday in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville where she had been a patient for four days. She and her husband had owned and operated the Yountsville Service Station & Cafe during the time when the covered bridge was in service over Sugar Creek until 1941. They then moved to Hillsboro and operated the Humphreys Hardware until retiring in 1960. Mrs. Humphreys was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and held offices in the WSCS for many years. She was a member and past worthy matron of Alamo Eastern Star Chapter 498, member and past chief of Hillsboro Pythian Sisters, past president of Cain Township and the Fountain County Extension organizations; past president of Harmony Club of Hillsboro; member of the Indiana Federated Music Club; and member of the Wallace Cabalistic Club. The oldest child in a family of 16, she was born Dec. 21, 1891, near New Richmond, a daughter of Henry and Lewella Watts Dazey. She was educated in Elmdale schools. She married Asa Humphreys of Hillsboro on Aug. 1, 1908. He died in December of 1970. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ioline Raymond of West Newton and Virginia Lou Briney of Hillsboro with whom she had made her home since the death of her husband; three brothers, Leland and Tom Dazey of California and Don Dazey of Waynetown; seven sisters, Mrs. Virgie Evans of Washington, Mrs. Helen Brodwick of Kansas, Mrs. Dorothy Stephens, Mrs. Frances Seybold and Mrs. Doris Kelley, all of Rt. 3, Crawfordsville, Mrs. Violet Smith of Wingate and Mrs. Nadine Staggs of Elkhart; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Burditt of Houston, Tex., two sisters and three brothers. Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Servies-Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with the Rev. Dorman Winger officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
