Fred Humphrey, 85, of 1005 Lane Ave., died at 12:40 a.m. Friday at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Humphrey worked as a blacksmith here and at Wingate most of his life. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and received his education in Illinois and Elmdale. Born Aug. 31, 1879, north of Danville, Ill., he was a son of Samuel and Sarah Griffin Humphrey. He was married July 27, 1899, to Mary E. Ross. They were married in Crawfordsville. Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Edith Sutton of Lafayette; eight brothers, John and Wilbur, both of Crawfordsville, Lee of Wingate, Frank of California, Asa and Charles, both of Hillsboro, Grover of Danville, Ill., and Carl of Waveland; two sisters, Mrs. Zella Potter of Alvin, Ill. and Mrs. Harry Fruits of Crawfordsville; two grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Powers Funeral Home here with Rev. John R. Servies officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery north of Elmdale. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after noon Sunday.
