Henry Hummell died on Saturday morning at the home of Joseph Kepler, his son-in-law, aged 71 years after an illness of many weeks. He was born in Auspach, Germany August 14, 1829. He came to America with his parents when 20 years of age, locating in Milwaukee, where he resided till May 12, 1856, when he married Mary Schernecker. He early learned the baker's trade. From 1864 he was employed in the government bakery at Evansville till 1869, when he came to Crawfordsville, which has been his home the greater part of the time since. He was a kindly old man of sober habits and strictest honor. His funeral will be today at 10 o'clock at the home of Joseph Kepler and interment at Oak Hill - typed by kbz

Henry Hummel was born in Auspack, Germany Aug 14, 1829. In 1839, with his parents he emigrated to this country and settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsins where he resided until May 12, 1856 when he married Mary Schnemeker. He learned the baker trade at which he worked nearly all his life. In 1864 he moved his family to Jeffersonville, Ind where he was engaged in the government bakery.  In 1869 he removed to Crawfordsville where ehe has since resided with the greatest par tof the time. Henry Huel was first and greatest of all, an honest man, true to his friends kind and consider to all, a man of more than ordinary intelligence; broad minded and of large information. No higher praise could be give him than to chisel upon his head stone this sentence He tried to do his duty. The funeral will be held from the residence of Jos. Kepler, o 115 W Pike Street at 10 o’clock Monday. Interment at Oak Hill. Friends invited to attend. - kz

Henry Hummell was first and greatest of all, an honest man; true to his friends, kind and considerate to all. A man of more than ordinary intelligence, broad minded and of large information. No higher praise could be given him than to chisel upon his headstone, this sentence: He tried to do his duty.

The funeral was held from the residence of Joseph Kepler, 115 West Pike Street, at 10 o’clock Monday. Interment was at Oak Hill. -s
