Mrs. Laura Hulvey of near Darlington, Ind died of burns suffered when gasoline with which she was spraying a hog pen became ignited by a burning ember lying near by. She was transformed into a human torch when the gasoline exploded. - kbz

Darlington, July 16 – Mrs. Laurabelle Hulvey, 58, of three and one half miles northwest of Darlington died in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville at 2 o’clock this afternoon as the result of burns she suffered yesterday evening when a hog house she was spraying with gasoline burst into flames. Her husband, Floren Hulvey dragged his wife from the blazing structure and roller her on the grass until the flames were extinguished. She suffered severe burns over her entire body. Her husband was burned less seriously about the hands. Mrs. Hulvey was born in Boone County April 7, 1877, the daughter of John and Louisa Kirk, marrying Floren Hulvey on Dec 31, 1896. She was a member of the Bowers United Brethren Church. Surviving besides the husband are two daughters: Mrs. Gladys Smith of Bowers; and Mrs. Hazel Cooksey of near Linden; one son, Earl of Darlington; one sister, Mrs. Iva Campbell of Lafayette and three brothers, Harley, Allen and Jess Kirk, all living north of Darlington.
