Harry C. Hughes, 60 years of age, a former resident of Crawfordsville, died at his home in Danville, Illinois, 209 New York street, shortly after 4:25 p.m. Friday. Funeral services were held at the home today at 2:30 today. Burial in Springhill cemetery. Mr. Hughes had been ill for more than six months. His death was caused by cancer of the heart. Mr. Hughes was born in Crawfordsville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hughes. Forty years ago he moved to Danville, Illinois, where he has since resided. During his residence in that city he has been in the theatrical and billposting business and for twenty years had charge of the concessions of Danvilles' leading parks. The deceased will be remembered by his many friends in this city as a genial, sociable man with a happy heart who remained close to his friends during all his boyhood which was spent in this city. After casting his lot with Danville, Illinois, he continued to make friends, being one of the best known men of that city. This was attested by the profuse floral offerings at his death. Mr. Hughes during the years he was connected with the Grand opera house at Danville, made a specialty of obtaining the photograph of every theatrical performer possible and the collection formed a gallery containing hundreds of photographs. The gallery is now kept at the Hughes residence. Among the autographed pictures are those of Sarah Bernhardt, Otis Skinner, and Edwin Booth. Mr. Hughes is survived by his widow and four children: Paul F. Hughes of Chicago, Mrs. Wilse Lashley of Sacramento, California; Mrs. Harry Perkins of Detroit, Michigan, and Mrs. Bert McCord of Danville, also by a sister, Mrs. Mattie Thornton, whose husband graduated from Wabash, who resides in California.
