Harry Hughes, 81, lifelong resident of Montgomery County and a retired Crawfordsville postal employee, died early Friday morning at a nursing home in Crawfordsville. He had been ill for some time. Born in the county March 20, 1887, he was the son of Jeff and Emma Johnson Hughes. He was educated in Montgomery County and Crawfordsville schools and attended business college. He first married Eva Henthorn who preceded him in death in 1943. He later married Winnie Pyle who died last December. Mr. Hughes was a member of the First Christian Church in Crawfordsville. He was a member of the American Legion and World War I Barracks. He served in the U. S. Army in World War I. He was also a member of the POS of A and the Retired Civil Service Employees Association. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Robert Cunningham of Crawfordsville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Glaydes Obenchain of Plainfield; a stepson, James Pyle of Monticello, and a brother, Walter L. Hughes of Goldsmith, Ind. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Powers Funeral Home in Crawfordsville. Rev. Howard Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday. - jlr
