Donald A. Hughes, 61, a former resident of Crawfordsville, died at his home in Arcadia Monday morning. He had lived in Hamilton County for the past 42 years and was a restaurant manager in Indianapolis for 25 years. He presently owned the Hughes Cigar Store in Arcadia. He was a member of the Arcadia United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He was born Jan. 8, 1917, a son of Albert and Harriet Hughes. He was married Nov. 28, 1940, to Harriett Clifford. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Joe Hughes of Tipton, Andy Hughes of Noblesville, and Charlie and Jay Hughes, both of Arcadia; two daughters, Mary Ellen Cazian of Boise, Idaho, and Elizabeth Jenkins of Carmel; two sisters, Mrs. Calvert Kingery of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Joy Curtin of Pekin, Ill.; a brother, Ralph Hughes of Indianapolis; and 10 grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hartley Funeral Home at Arcadia with Dr. William Early officiating. Burial will be in Arcadia Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. – jlr
