Mrs. Alta E. HUGHES, 81, 1100 W. Market St, died at 5:30 Thursday at the home of a son, Harry E. Hughes, south of Waynetown. She had been making her home with her son the past 3 weeks. Born Feb 10, 1882, SW of Crawfordsville, she was a daughter of Oscar and Nancy Westfall Schenck. She married charles R. Hughes Dec 10, 1901; he died Nov 6, 1955. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes lived in Fountain County where Mr. Hughes farmed. They moved to this city when he retired in 1932. Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Christian Union Church, Circle 2 Christian Women's Fellowship of 1st Christian Church and a home ec organization. She was also a member of the Spanish American War Auxiliary in Montgomery Co. Survivors include the son of whose home she died; a brother, Forest Schenck of Rt. 2, Waynetown; a grandson, Harry and a granddaughter, Geraldine. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beatrice Nancy Hughes and sister, Mrs. Era Murphy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bright Funeral Home here with Rev. John R. Servies officiating. Interment will be in Waynetown Masonic Cem. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Friday. - kbz
