Charles Kenneth Howard 68 of 305 Porter Street died Sunday morning in Culver Hospital. He had been a 34 year employee of Midstates Steel & Wire Co. He was also a former employee of Glen R. Pitman Co and was a motor carrier for the Indianapolis Star for 12 years. Mr. Howard was a veteran of WWI, having served in the European Theater. He was a member of Mellott Christian Church, Byron Cox Post American Legion & Midstates 25 year club. Mr. Howard was born March 4, 1911 at Mellott, a son of Elton W. and Bessie Locke Howard. He married Innis Coons on Dec 14, 1945. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Janet Lynn Howard of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Russell of Crawfordsville and Melvin of Rockville; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Holman of Crawfordsville and Betty Howard of Crawfordsville, and an aunt, Mrs. Fred Rutledge of Mellott. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Leland Brett will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
