Kenneth Alvin Hougland, age 55, a resident of Covington Rt. 1, died at 3:35 a.m. Sunday, March 21, in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been admitted only 40 minutes earlier. He had been in ill health for the past month. Mr. Hougland had been a farmer most of his life and had been employed by the Fountain County Highway Department for nine years. He was a life resident of the Salem community and was a member of the Salem Methodist Church. He was born April 9, 1909, the son of George and Grace Hawkins Hougland. On Feb. 16, 1933, he was married to Hildreth Stonecipher. Surviving, in addition to his wife are: one son, Gene Hougland of Wingate Rt. 1; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Kathryn Cox of Darlington Rt. 1; two sisters, Mrs. Iva Lois Stonecipher of Veedersburg Rt. 4 and Mrs. Evelyn English of Covington Rt. 1; and five granddaughters. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Salem Methodist Church, northeast of Covington, where the body lay in state one hour. The Rev. Lester Knopfmier officiated. Burial, with the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home of Covington in charge, was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Serving as pallbearers were: Max T. Layton, Harold Sweet, John Dewlen, Harold Hoagland, Russell Woodrow and John Fields. --typed by Walt W
