Burial of Mrs. Bessie Glenn Horney 62
who met death in an auto accident Friday morning took place in the IOOF
cemetery here Monday afternoon following services at the Proffitt & Sons
Funeral Home at Crawfordsville. The Rev. Claude M. McClure of Indianapolis
officiated at the Sunday service and organ selections were played by Mary June
Cunningham. Pall bearers were Clinton
Barley, Fred Barley, Oscar Taylor, Arthur Taylor, Harold Elkins and Arthur
Gray. Relatives and friends assisted with the flowers. Mrs. Horney was fatally
injured shortly after 7 o’clock Friday
morning when the auto she was driving rammed into a tree of the intersection of
Shady Lane at the west edge of Crawfordsville. At the time she was trying to help
a son, William M. Horney, start the car in which she was pushing. Police who
investigated the accident believed that the car started suddenly and that Mrs.
Horney accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. She was
taken to Culver Hospital in an ambulance but was pronounced death on arrival
there. She had suffered head and chest injuries in addition to internal
injuries. Mrs. Harney was born Dec 20, 1885, the daughter of William and Clara
Stingley Jordan. She was married in Lafayette in 1904 to Bradley P. Horney. For
several years they had lived on Shady Lane, near where the accident occurred.
She was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include the husband,
Bradley P. Horney; four sons, C. Dalton Horney, Donald K. Horney, and William
M. Horney all of Crawfordsville and Dewey Francis Horney of Monrovia Cal, a
daughter, Mrs. Thelma Endean of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren and a
borther, L. Earl Jordan of Pasadena, Cal. Another brother, Leslie Jordan
preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs.
Dewey Horney and family and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jordan arrived from California
Sunday night. The Jordans who had
visited here this spring had been back home only since June 29. - kbz (thanks to Butch Dale)
